Haydon Bridge Walks Leaflets
September 2011

Haydon Bridge and Haydon Parish Development Trust has produced two walks leaflets

offering a variety of walks around the village

Farms, Romans and Countryside is either a seven mile loop, a 13 mile loop through Northumberland National Park and along Hadrian’s Wall, or can be used as a six mile walk connecting the village with Housesteads Roman Fort.

Hills and Woods That Inspired An Artist explores the valley to the south of the village

in loops of 7¼  or 4 miles. Climbing into the North Pennines AONB through countryside

which inspired the works of celebrated Victorian artist John Martin, it passes his birthplace

on the outskirts of the village.

New Guide Book
June 2011

A new essential history and guide by Dennis Telford to Haydon Old Church has been published. Priced at £3 and available from the Bridge Library or Claire's Newsagents, all

proceeds from sales will go towards the upkeep of the Old Church. (An official launch will

be made on 3rd August 2011)

Lottery Funding for John Martin Heritage Festival
11 February 2011

The Haydon Bridge Development Trust is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a

grant of £48,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to celebrate the life and works

of the community’s most famous son. The John Martin Heritage Festival will run from March

2011 in venues in and around the village to coincide with major exhibitions of the artist’s work

at the Laing Art Gallery and Tate Britain.

First News of John Martin Heritage Festival
30 January 2011

The John Martin Heritage Festival is due to start in March and run throughout the year and

1nto 2012 to coincide with major exhibitions at the Laing and Tate Britain. Events will include

talks by Martin experts, guided walks by archaeologists, geologists and local guides, art, writing

and photography workshops, storytelling for children and parents and the development of

materials for a Martin Heritage Centre in the village.
