Haydon Development Trust

The Development Trust was set up in November 2008 to take forward the implementation of the Haydon Parish Plan – see below.
The Development Trust was registered as a company limited by guarantee in April 2009, and is currently also registered with the Charity Commission as a Charity no. 1135248 Charity Commission link is Here

The Mission of the Development Trust

The Mission of the Haydon Bridge and Haydon Parish Development Trust is to implement the Parish Plan. This covers three key areas of work:
• Ensuring a sustainable economy and clear and marketable identity for the parish
• Enhancing the physical design, environment and accessibility of the village/parish
• Re-energising our sense of well-being within a socially inclusive community

The plan and its implementation will evolve over time. The Development Trust will act as a focal point for Parish Development and for the ideas of Parishioners.

Our Values

We will at all times act fairly and responsibly.
We will achieve this by being open and inclusive.
Our role is to represent the views of the Parish and we will do so with openness to all and a willingness to listen.

Projects the Development Trust is working on

A summary of the initiatives the Development Trust is working on is provided below. Over £80,000 funding had been secured from Northumberland Uplands New Leader Rural Development Programme and other sources to kick start the work of the Trust for the benefit of the local community.

HBDT members are also promoting a proposed cycle path route from the village to Hexham

Community Library, Visitor Information Point and Internet Café
Capital funding was secured to upgrade the library in Haydon Bridge, which re-opened in May 2010 as a Community Library, Visitor Information Point and Internet Café for the benefit of both local people and visitors.

The library is run entirely by volunteers who receive training from the County Council to operate the library service and by tourism organisations to provide the Visitor Information Point service.

Website
The development of this website is also a project of the Development Trust and managed by it.

Tourist Information
Information is being produced on local and other services and tourism attraction.

Support will also be provided to local tourism businesses such as accommodation providers as well as local shops and services to improve how we market local facilities and attractions to tourists.

Lighting
After the success of the installation on the old bridge of 15 illuminated Christmas trees over the 2008-09 and 2009-10 Christmas periods, funding is now being sought to light the Parish Church all year round.

Village Christmas trees and a New Year's Eve Firework Display is now undertaken through the village's Get It Together Society (GITS)

Village Oil Buying Co-operative

A successful village group bulk buying and delivery arrangement, initially instigated through the HBDT, is reducing the cost of purchase of fuel oils.
