The heart of any community is in the people who live there, and the activities they do together are a big part of what breathes life into a village. Haydon Bridge has a wide range of groups for all ages and interests. You can volunteer to help at the Luncheon Club, or maybe come for lunch itself. The Gardening Group are working wonders in making the village a more beautiful and welcoming place all year round, while the Nature Club is a long standing village institution. However, the village’s oldest institution is the Shaftoe Charities, who have been offering philanthropic help to parishioners sinch the 17th century.
If more vigorous activity is what you want then contact our Sports Clubs, popular with adults and children alike. And for everything from Allotments to Yoga, our list of local groups has something for everyone.

Haydon Bridge Red Squirrel Group
Haydon Bridge Red Squirrel Group has reformed and is looking for volunteers to help red squirrels to return to Haydon Bridge.
Red squirrels used to be plentiful in the Haydon Bridge area, but there have been very few sightings in recent years. The main reason for the decline is the presence of grey squirrels which out compete reds for food and carry the squirrel pox virus, harmless to greys but lethal to reds.
Haydon Bridge Red Squirrel Group is determined to reverse the decline and enable the reds to return

Recreation/Picnic Areas
Shaftoe Doorstep Green
In 2004-5 the Parish Council acted as an umbrella organisation for a group of local parents who wanted to create a safe place to play for their children. The site lies on land above the Shaftoe First School, with outstanding views North over the village. With a separate toddlers play area, something more challenging for older children, and seats and picnic tables for parents to relax at, there is something for everyone.A car park located behind the First School provides access for all.
Riverside Picnic Area
Located on the north side of the South Tyne with entry and parking from the west end of the new bridge. There are seating areas and stone built BBQ pits for your own fires. Please dispose of BBQ safely
