When the Development Trust was preparing a new Neighbourhood Plan for the parish some years ago it was realised that an important aspiration in the previous version was to provide something for older villagers, and that this had not been realised.  A group of volunteers decided to establish a weekly social event based around food and see if it was viable.

From small beginnings and with Parish Council and Development Trust support, some 7 years later we now have a thriving Friday Lunch event at the Community Centre on Ratcliffe Road regularly supplying 30 Villagers with lunch.  We have had to move from the Coffee Lounge into the Main Hall to get everyone in.  All are welcome although, because it is on a weekday, the majority attending are retired.  We have even had international visitors!

Every Friday from 12 noon prompt we offer a choice of 2 soups, 2 sandwich fillings and 2 desserts, all for £5.  Tea, coffee and squash are also included, vegetarians are catered for too.  Come along and join us for a friendly chat and good food, we are usually finished by 1.15.

The whole thing is a volunteer-run enterprise and we are always keen to recruit new helpers, either to help on the day with service or sandwiches or to prepare soups or desserts in advance.  No experience is needed, we have developed standard ways of working to simplify things, the costs of ingredients etc are fully reimbursed and you get your lunch at a reduced price.  Call in one Friday and see what we do or contact caroleannprice@hotmail.co.uk for more details
