Haydon Bridge offers great countryside for walkers to explore, on trails which become scenic even before you have left the village.. To make your choice easier, three walks leaflets containing a range of self-guided trails are available from The Bridge Library and Community Hub.

Village Walk Leaflets
John Martin Trail
The John Martin Trail is popular both as a walking challenge and a showcase of the landscapes which inspired the village’s most famous son as a boy. It was created to celebrate the life and works of the great Victorian artist John Martin, who was born in the village and used its landscapes as inspiration. It links places in and around the village which played a part in Martin’s life, and explores the hills and woods which he walked as a child and which provided a canvas for his later works.
This route is in two sections, a moderate North route of 2.5 miles and moderately strenuous South of 11.2 miles. Both walks start at ‘The Bridge’ Library and Community Hub, Church Street, Haydon Bridge.
There are regular waymarks and six information panels en route. These panels (and additional waymarks) have been renewed during the summer of 2022. A free pamphlet with maps is available from ‘The Bridge’ library, Church Street, T.I.C.s, or from this site.
