Haydon Old Church was once the village’s main place of worship. Reputed to be established on a site where St Cuthbert’s coffin rested on its way to Durham Cathedral, it served the needs of the community until the late 18th century. As the village in the valley grew, the church moved to be nearer the people, and other denominations followed over the years.
